日本には神道の神事において神饌(神様へのお供え)を載せるための三方という台を使ってきた歴史があります。筒状のヒノキの土台に同じくヒノキのトレイを載せた製品で、一般家庭でも十五夜を祝う時につかうお月見台を三方といいます。古代には、高貴な人物に献上する際にも使用されました。寺院でも同様のものが使われますが、三つの宝(仏・法・僧)にかけて三宝(さんぽう)と書かれることもあります。筒胴に三方向の眼像(くりかた)と呼ばれる穴があり、穴の形も仏教で宝珠と呼ばれる災難を避け、濁水を清くするといわれる珠(たま)の形であると言われています。私たちはこの三方を300年前から作り続けております。国からは尾張仏具として2017年に伝統工芸品の指定をうけ、古くからの伝統を守りながら製品を作り続けています。私たちの考える現代の三方のブランドがNUSAです。NUSAは新しい三方という意味と神様に捧げる供え物”特別なギフト”という意味です。ブランドは神社で使われる数々の製品をデザインモチーフに三方に使われる木曽ヒノキをつかい、曲げ加工や折加工で職人が手加工で一つ一つ作り、お弁当からトレイ、ボウルや折り畳みスツール、テーブルなど多くのジャンルにわたる日常生活のブランドを作っています。
SANBOU is the name of a footed tray used to carry Shinsen (God offerings) in Shinto rituals for centuries.The tray, made of cypress, is placed on a tubular base made by fodling a cypress sheet. In ancient times, it was not only used in temples but also by noble households. SANBOU refers to “three treasures”: Buddha, Dharma the Teachings and Sangha the community. There is a pearl shaped hole in one of the faces that is said to purify the muddy waters and avoid disasters. Sanbou has been made for 300 years and in 2017, it was designated traditional craft by the Japanese government as part of the Owari Buddhist altars. We continue to craft Sanbou while preserving the old tradition. Our new brand name NUSA results from the combination of the two words “new-sanbou”. In Shinto purification rituals, nusa also refers to a special gift to the divinities.
NUSA products are made of Kiso Hinoki (a type of cypress used to build traditional Sanbou trays) with a design reference to shrines products. Under the direction of Takumi Shimamura, designer, we developed a collection of user-friendly objects. From bento-boxes to trays, bowls and folding furniture, products are handmade one by one using bending and folding techniques inherited from Edo period.
