kirmon
Concept of Kirmon
One of the mottos of Japanese culture is to flexibly fold things in compact ways. Large objects can be folded up into a small size and are stored until the time they need to be used. One can flexibly decide how to use the room: a small room of tatami mats and some furniture can thus be used as a living room, dining room or bedroom.
Kimono, traditional Japanese cloth, is made from a roll of cloth. A flat cloth thus becomes a three-dimensional garment. When the kimono is not being worn, it becomes a fabric again and can be stored in a small space until it is needed again by the present user or by future generations.
Kirmon is a series of products which transform their shape from flat to cubic.
Kirmon are contemporary clothing products that succeed and utilize the concept of Japan’s traditional kimono culture.
